Tips For Body & Mind Self-Care During A Busy Day

(reminder: it can be a long journey but in the end it will always be worthy and will train you to get used to a new routine)

  • Start a small exercising routine: regularly, even for short periods and few times a week. You can choose different ways of exercising that are fairly easy to do for most people and you can do just about anywhere. Walking to your office or taking a walk after dinner around the neighborhood with a friend or family member.
  • Start a good sleep routine: when you take time to get enough sleep, eat good foods and take charge of your health, you notice that you have a positive shift in your mood because you are taking good care of your body. You may practice some mindful meditation or listen to music you enjoy before you go to sleep in the evening.
  • Set a routine for your busy work schedules: it’s good to take the time to set routine steps for your daily tasks and set some boundaries around your time at work.
  • Try activities that mentally stimulate you: break out of a negative cycle and take time to socialize, volunteer to support others and nurture relationships that are important to you.

Tips To Prevent Burnout In Nursing

(reminder: it is important to keep in mind that the best way to prevent burnout is to prevent it from happening in the first place)

When feelings of burnout start to occur, many people focus on short-term solutions such as taking a vacation. While this can certainly help, the relief is often only temporary. You also need to focus on strategies that will have a deeper impact, and create lasting change. There are many ways to beat burnout, but the most effective way is to implement workplace stress management techniques. Workplace stress management techniques focus on building a road map that launches you into a more sustainable career and a happier, healthier life.
How it works:

  • List some of the problems you are facing.
  • Identify the root cause of each problem.
  • Group problems together by cause.
  • Organize your task list for each group into four separate quadrants, sorting them by important vs. unimportant and urgent vs. not urgent. Urgent tasks are those we feel need to get done immediately. Important tasks are those that contribute to your long term goals or values. Ideally, you should only work on tasks in the top two quadrants—the other tasks, you should delegate or delete.
  • Set routine steps and limit time for tasks, taking regular breaks.
  • Having realistic expectations and getting things done.
  • Seeking support from your supervisor and coworkers. Nurse managers can implement workplace stress management techniques by creating a culture of support and accountability and having regular meetings where employees can share their concerns and receive advice and support.
  • Prioritize self-care to replenish your physical and emotional energy, along with your capacity to focus, by prioritizing good sleep habits, nutrition, exercise, social connection, and practices that promote equanimity and well-being, like meditating, journaling, and enjoying nature.
