MEDICAL RESIDENCY PROGRAMME (SINGAPORE)

Select Residency Programmes

Once you decide on a specialty, you need to choose the residency program you want to apply to. Many considerations come into play, including answers to the following questions:

  • Is geographic location important ?
  • Are you looking for an academic program with a heavy emphasis on research or a clinical program with high clinical volume?
  • How important is residency reputation?
  • How competitive is your own application?
  • Work-life balance?

With so many considerations, you will need to assess your options and discuss them with colleagues and mentors who know you and in your field. Each residency programme may have different requirements when recruiting its Residents. Do speak with the Programme Directors (PDs) or Faculty to find out more and increase the chance of getting accepted.

Submit the Residency Application

To register for residency programmes, all applications are submitted through MOHH Physician Portal (refer to a link from the useful lists below).

  • Once registered with MOHH Physician, you will provide your resume information in a standardized template, enter a personal statement, upload a photo, and submit your academic records, transcripts, documentation of work experience, supervisor reports, posting grades, postgraduate examinations, awards, and other accomplishments.
  • Be sure to include all your experiences in the application, including teaching experiences, membership in academic organizations, and extracurricular activities. This is also an opportunity for you to highlight how your unique background can enrich the residency program if you match there.
  • Designate the program you wish to apply to.

    Singapore Integrated Programmes (SGIP)

With effect from AY2020 intake onwards, due to the smaller training positions, five Residency training programmes across the 3 clusters - SingHealth, National Healthcare Group (NHG) and National University Health System (NUHS) have been integrated at the national level as the Singapore Integrated Programme (SGIP). Following PGY1, House Officers and Medical Officers are welcomed to apply to their programme of choice.
